The Embroiderers' Guild Queensland Inc. is the place to come if you enjoy the fine arts especially Embroidery.

 

We are a group of kindred spirits who meet to share our interest in Embroidery. We all start out at some point to learn and value the work of the needle and thread. The Guild is the home for beginners as well as the advanced. If you enjoy this beautiful work, do come and visit us and learn more about all the different forms of Embroidery.

 

Our Mission Statement is:
To promote, preserve and encourage all aspects of embroidery by providing a venue for embroiderers to meet, classes to be held and heirloom pieces to be collected.

Services Offered:

Classes

Many classes are offered for both members and non-members. 

 

  • Free Stitches

This course is offered free of charge to all Guild members. This is half day class for those who are not familiar with the more common stitches used in embroidery. A "must" for those beginners wishing to do other classes in the future.

  • Embroidery Techniques Course

This course was devised to assist new members to the Guild who may have previously done little embroidery but any member is welcome to do it.

  • Classes for Young Embroiderers

These classes are held each vacation and are extremely popular.

  • Classes in other Embroidery Techniques

We also offer classes in many embroidery techniques, for example:

  • Blackwork Hardanger
  • Brazilian Mountmellick
  • Canvas Pulled Thread
  • Crewel Silk Ribbon
  • Elizabethan Stumpwork
  • Goldwork - Or Nue Work

  • Membership

Any person who is interested in the art of embroidery may join. Go to our website for furrther information.

  • Members' Meetings

There are usually two formal meetings of the members held each year to discuss the business of the Guild - the AGM and the half yearly meeting. These are held in February and August.

  • Newsletter

A members newsletter, Queensland Embroidery, is published 10 times per year. It is provided to all members of the Guild and is a source of news, events, competitions and class information.

  • Exhibitions

An exhibition of members' work is mounted every two years. This is open to the public. 

  • Library

There is an extensive lending Library which is open whenever members are present.

  • Craft Fairs

Craft Fairs are held in the Guild Rooms twice yearly, in April and in November.
