Have you ever been told you are not artistic?

Well that happened to Gill Peterson, owner and creator of Artopia Glassworks, at school. Her art teacher was not very encouraging and Gill decided that appreciating art and not expressing her creativity was her lot in life, despite an artistic family background.

After many years in the workforce she decided to have a go at something artistic. She completed a 10 week course in mosaics with Helen Harman and has not looked back.

Gill carried on learning mosaics with Helen and then they started Artopia, a mosaic studio together, teaching the art of mosaics and supplying mosaic materials. During that time Gill was encouraged to expand her horizons and did a professional development course in Glass Fusing and Slumping. This has become her passion.

Gill has now set up a studio in the garage of her home and produces her work there. She also teaches the basic skills involved in glass fusing and slumping from those premises as well as providing a workshop for others to use to produce their own pieces.

BEGINNERS COURSES

Slumping

You will learn how to cut and prepare a mould and slump your first piece of float glass into a functional or decorative piece. This technique can be translated for use with coloured glass pieces.
Cost: $55.00

Tack Fusing

You will learn how to cut and design glass and prepare it for a tack fusing firing, to form a dimentional piece for slumping or decoration.
Cost: $95.00

Full Fusing

You will learn how to cut, design and decorate glass and prepare it for a full fusing firing to form a decorative and functional bowl.
Cost $120.00

Dichroic Jewellery

Learn how to make pendants or earrings to match a favourite outfit or as a gift.
Cost: $55.00 includes 2 pendants, extra pendants $12 each.

INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED ARTISTS
Once you have learned the basics you are welcome to attend regular sessions to make more pieces as you like.

You can use the workshop on the 2nd Saturday of each month anytime from 10am - 4pm.

Please book in as space is limited.
Cost: $10 per hour to a maximum of $40, materials and firing extra.
If you prefer to prepare your glass at home, Gill stocks glass and tools at competitive prices and also offers a firing service.
Sales outside of session times are by appointment only.
