Warren Palmer: Studio Painting & Mentoring

 

This program is designed to assist advanced artists/ students develop individual directions in painting and to achieve personal art goals under Warren’s mentorship and guidance, enabling you to tap into his vast bank of artistic knowledge and experience. In order to achieve the most positive results, students must be experienced in painting, and have confidence and competence in the media. Warren Palmer is a practicing artist with over 40 years teaching experience. He was Head of Ceramics at QUT for 20 years, where he also lectured graduating students in drawing and painting. He is the recipient of several major awards (including the prestigious Gold Coast Award) and his work is represented in the QLD Art Gallery, in University and Regional Galleries in Australia, China and Canada. Suit Level 3.

Penelope Gilbert-Ng: The Power of Drawing (Pastels & Oils)

 

This term class will focus on developing your drawing by studying parts of the figure such as feet, hands, heads and torsos which will be explored tonally with first application in charcoal and graphite then moving to colour. Learn about the effect of light and why shadows are the key in creating shapes, tone and compositional design. Penelope will also discuss tips on colour mixing, as well as giving evaluation and feedback. Students must feel comfortable with their drawing skills. Penelope is an experienced Judge, a practicing professional artist for over 30 years, a MASTER Pastellist with the Pastel Society of Australia, a previous finalist in the Archibald and Portia Geech Portrait competitions and is an experienced painting tutor. She focuses her drawings and paintings on the subtly of colour and has a painterly approach to her figurative work. She demonstrates regularly throughout the class which is invaluable. Suit all levels.

Des Rolph: Painting and Drawing the Contemporary Landscape in Oils or Acrylics

 

This workshop will help take you on a visual journey through the mystical Australian landscape which is depicted by the language of line and the symphony of colour, with different light formations and weather suggesting a mysterious and even supernatural dimension to the landscape. Explore depictions of the landscape in a multi perspective compositional way, and all facets of the landscape from mountains to the swamps, and explore the spirit of the land we live in. The landscape is also often featured as the setting for human stories, some real, some imagined. Inspired both by myths and archetypes, explore the relationship between people and the land. Figures in the landscape can be represented as real or mostly imagined or mythological figures. Des is an experienced painting tutor, whose highly sought after works are held in collections in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the UK. Suit Level 2 & 3.
