Rice Papers

Rice Paper, as we know it in the craft industry, is a thin, soft, but strong paper - printed with patterns that exhibit great detail and exquisite colours, often in subtle shades. It is also known as 'Japanese wrapping paper' and 'Mulberry paper'. It is NOT edible like the paper used in the food industry.

We have an extensive range of designs in stock. Rice paper can be used for a number of crafts or just as a nice form of wrapping paper for confectionary or presents. Rice paper can also be used to decorate other surfaces - including wood, cardboard, candle, and glass. The paper can also be used when card-making and scrapbooking.

"Flowers that Last"

"Flowers that Last" are a spectacular personal creation made from coloured silk stocking materials and a special wire. Once you have learned how to make a particular type of flower it is easy to reproduce more of the same.

The initial learning is best done in our Flower workshop, which runs for at least 2 hours, and all tools and materials for the craft are provided. Each participant can choose from any of the following kits:

  • Frangipanni
  • Slipper Orchid
  • Iris
  • Daffodil
  • Oriental Lilly
  • Rose
  • Carnation
  • Bird of Paradise
  • Orchid Stem
  • Gladioli
  • Poinsettia
  • Waratah

Wooden pieces (for Folk Art, etc)

A small range of wooden items suitable for Folk Art are carried in stock but a wide-range of other items can be ordered from our supplier in Sydney.

The wooden items can be used as the base for rice paper decoupage as long as the wood is first coated with flat white paint. This gives a good surface for the rice paper to adhere to, but more importantly the white colour displays the paper's colours to best effect.

Folk art classes are now available in our Studio with a qualified folk art teacher.
