Cake Portion Guide
Determining the correct size of wedding cake that is required can be a simple exercise providing some basic points are covered. The following questions should be addressed and applied to the Portion Guide during the design and consultation phase with your decorator. This information will ensure that you choose a wedding cake that is the ideal size for your needs and not one that is either under or over estimated
- How many guests will the cake need to serve;
- Is the cake to be served as dessert size portions or treat size portions;
- Is a 'morning after' cake required;
- Is the top tier to be kept or used.
Generally treat size cake portions are .75" x .75" x 3" in size; and the dessert size cake portions are .75" x 1.5" x 3" high. Treat (or finger) size portions are needed when the cake is served with coffee or placed in take-home containers. There are more portions in a square shaped cake compared to other shapes and this creates some savings as generally there is no price difference in the shape of the cake selected. Be sure to ask you decorator to provide a 'cutting guide' to leave with the venue when the cake is delivered.
