Choosing A Class

Our classes are not structured around the same mosaic for all students. Instead, our classes usually consist of students working on different projects. Choose your class mosaic from our kits, indoor mirrors or wall features, outdoor table, indoor table, paving stone or garden wall feature. All of these projects can be achieved by beginners.

Class Location

Studio at rear,
9 Bristol Avenue
Edithvale
Victoria 3196
(Please come down side path on right side of house)

Class Size

There is a maximum of eight students per class. However, some classes may be smaller in number.

No matter what the class size, you will be individually cared for by Janet, who spends equal time with every student, irrespective of your mosaic knowledge!

Direct Method

We teach the direct method when you make any of our indoor kits, mirrors and wall features.

Glue is applied to the back of the tiles. The back of the tile is then pressed onto the baseboard. You will see the mosaic grow slowly before your eyes. The finished mosaic is then grouted and cleaned.

Homework

You will find that you will get hooked pretty quickly on mosaics and will thoroughly enjoy your homework.

Homework helps you to get your mosaic finished on time. Other students are always keen to discuss your progress with you each week and encourage you with your efforts.

THE GENERAL RULE: THE BIGGER OR MORE DETAILED YOUR MOSAIC, THE MORE HOMEWORK IS INVOLVED.

Indirect/Reverse Method

We teach the indirect / reverse method when you make an outdoor/indoor table, outdoor wall feature or paving stone.

The front of each tile is glued onto a stretched sheet of paper. Because the paper is flat, the finished mosaic is flat.

Each week, you take home a board with this paper stretched across the top. The mosaic is completed and, in the case of the table top and the wall feature, flipped over and embedded onto a cement base. This process reverses the mosaic.

With the paving stone, a strong concret mix is poured over the finished mosaic and when dry, the mosaic and concrete is turned over, again reversing the mosaic.

The finished mosaics are smooth and flat.

My students always find this method exciting, nerve wracking and immensely satisfying!

Parking

PLEASE BE KIND TO OUR NEIGHBOURS!

Keep the neighbours happy by following a few simple steps:

1. Don't park in the same spot each week.
Neighbours don't like their parking spots being taken by students. If you vary where you park, they are happy. You are also showing consideration to your fellow class members.

2. Unload your car and re-park away from the house, again varying where you park. When class finishes, you can re-park in front of the house to load your car before leaving. A five minute walk is good for everybody!

3. Park away from the house and / or in another street and walk.
If you are as unobtrusive as possible when you park your car, there will be no problems.

REMEMBER: Our neighbours are entitled to complain to council about parking problems created by students. Council will investigate their complaints and close the studio if they believe students are not complying.

KEEP THE NEIGHBOURS HAPPY AND EVERYONE IS HAPPY.
