FAQs

By: Cake Box

How far in advance do I need to book our wedding cake?
Wedding cakes or speciality cakes need to be booked 6 to 4 months in advance of your wedding date. As we bake everything from scratch and do not use preservatives we can only take on a certain amount of wedding cakes per weekend. So the sooner the better, but we do occasionally have spaces so it’s always best to ring!

Can I have different flavours in each tier? And will this affect the price?

Yes, you can have a different flavour for each tier, and even fruit cake for the top tier to keep! Having different flavours does not affect the price at all due to the quality ingredients that the cake box uses.

What size is a finger/coffee portion and dessert portion?
Finger or coffee portions are 2.5cm x 2.5 cm x the height of the cake. A dessert portion is 2.5 cm x 5 cm x height of the cake.

What factors will influence the cost of my cake?
As a general rule the cost of a cake depends on how much artistic labor is involved. Therefore cakes that are difficult, an unusual shape or that require a lot of fine lace piping or sugar flowers will be more expensive.

How much deposit do you require?
We require a 20% deposit with in 7 days of the bookings date to secure your booking. All deposits are non refundable and non transferable.

Can you cover and decorate other peoples cakes (Grandmas etc)?
No we don’t sorry, we cannot offer that service due to the standards we have in regards to height, moisture and shape. We are also bound by strict hygiene regulations which prevent us from providing goods which have not been prepared in our kitchens. We may be able to work from family recipes however there may be extra charges to source ingredients.

Do you deliver?
Yes, we can deliver Monday through to Saturday. Delivery charges apply depending on where the cake needs to go. Most reception centres will hold cakes overnight for Sunday weddings, please check with your reception centre before booking with us.

How long will the icing figurines last?
Icing Figurines can last for a very long time as long as they are stored properly. They need to be out of direct sunlight to stop colours fading too quickly and stored in an air tight container. However, after time the colours do tend to fade. We don’t advise figurines to be eaten after two weeks from the wedding.

Can we get flowers from our own florist to match bouquets?
Yes, of course. We use a large reputable wholesale flower company in Perth, however if you would like to supply your own flowers they need to be delivered to Cake Box no less than 1 day before the wedding date. Please bring to your florists attention that the flowers will be used on a cake, so they cannot be sprayed with pesticides or any other chemicals. If your florist will be arranging the flowers themselves, Cake Box takes no responsibility for any contamination, chemical poisoning or poisoning from ingesting hazardous flower or leaf saps.

What’s cheaper, a cake or cupcake tower?
Cupcake towers are traditionally seen as the more expensive alternative, however please read the following points before making up your mind:

  • A wedding cake can replace dessert, lowering the cost of the catering bill, however check to see how much “cakeage” costs as some times, per person, it can add up pretty quickly !
  • Cupcake towers can replace bonbonniere, however there would be extra costs for CakeBox to box and set up the towers to your requirement and also to hire the stand.

Can you make the icing figurines look like us?
Of course! Kaylee works from a picture of your dress and a picture of the two of you, she even matchs the colour of your flowers, hair, skin, suits & tie!
