Quilters Barn: January - March 2009 Newsletter

By: Quilters' Barn

Greetings from Quilters Barn!

Welcome to another year. How time flies when we are having fun!

I am actually away at the moment and having my very first cold Christmas in Europe. My daughter and I have travelled to Germany to see the Christmas markets and then spent Christmas with friends in Holland.

As this newsletter goes out we are travelling through Morrocco by camel and train. An interesting exercise and it was definately Laurens idea. We finish off the trip by going up to the Ice hotel which will be approx. minus 50 deg. This would have to be a first for me to have written this newsletter ahead of time.

Quilt Hanging - 1st February 2009

Plans are well on the way for our Quilt Hanging 2009 which is on the Sunday 1st February. Every second year we invite some Australian pattern designers to come and show and sell their designs and we have such a great variety to choose from.

They will have their patterns on sale in the hall on Sunday the 1st Feb. 10-4.

I am thrilled to have another surprise for you. On the Saturday 31st Jan we will have a Fashion and Fabric Show by Reece Scannell from Sydney. He has been designing clothes and fabrics for the past 15 years and has a very distinct and simple style to his work.

He will be talking about how photography and fashion has led him to quilting and he will be presenting a range of clothing (not available in shops) in his exclusive range of cotton quilting fabrics and introducing ‘The Blue Mountains Quilts and their Quilt Kits designed by Ann Langley in Reece Scannell Fabrics.

He will be talking about "colour and creativity" in your quilts. Clothing, fabric and kits will be for sale on the day. It will be a lot of fun and not to be missed. The Fashion and Fabric show will start off at 2pm with a selection of local cheeses and wines before Reeces presentation. The cost will be $12 with a portion of this going to a local charity.

Book early to get in!

PSSSSSS.
There has been some amazing rumours travelling around about the Quilters Barn closing down. I can tell you for sure we are not!

I am shifting the wholesale business back out to the farm and had considered taking the retail business back out there also but have decided now to leave it in Loch.

What is news is that we will have more in our store. I am hoping to get an antique dealer in to share the premise and also we will have an art gallery!

Have you seen the Quilters Companion with the DVD I did on the front? There has been a lot of positive feed back at how easy the technique looks.

As the picture shows we have a large variety of "Yuwa Rolls" I have been madly cutting 40 x 2 1/2" strips for these wondefull rolls (similar to the jelly rolls) but we can't call them that!

I have cut Indigo Rolls, Naomi Rolls ( these are designs from antique Kimono's), Libby Rolls ( these are very similar in weight and look to Liberty fabrics) Retro Rolls, and a collection of colour co-ordinated rolls. There is a beautiful Burgundy, pink and green Roll. I am also now designing some patterns to use with these rolls and of course you can use any book or pattern that is designed to use "jelly rolls" . You can order these rolls on the website and keep checking the website for new patterns using these "Yuwa Rolls".

Shows We Are Attending:

  • NewCastle Quilt and Craft Fair: Feb 20th - 22nd
  • Newcastle Exhibition Centre Australasia Quilt Convention: February 26th - March 1st
  • Melbourne Exhibition Centre Sydney Craftfest: March 6th - 8th at the Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush

Till the next Newsletter, Happy Stitching!
