Give an old ceramic bowl a new lease on life with mosaics.
Giving an old ceramic bowl a new lease on life is easy and fun with mosaics. It's a great weekend project for beginners and experienced mosaicists alike.
Here are the basic steps, if you'd like more detailed instructions visit our website www.specialtyartglass.com.au which includes detailed photographs of our latest project (look under 'Current Newsletter').
Materials
An old ceramic bowl
A selection of glass tiles
Adhesive - Weldbond or a cement based adhesive
Grout
Two wheeled nippers
A clean up tool (for removing excess adhesive prior to grouting) and tools to clean grout
Black permanent marker for drawing guide lines on bowl
Step 1:
Plan your design and mark it out on your bowl.
Step 2:
Cut your tiles. Wheeled nippers work well for glass tiles.
Step 3:
Lay your tiles using either Weldbond or a cement based adhesive. To ensure that your adhesive doesn't dry out work in small sections at a time laying the adhesive first and then pressing the tiles into it.
Step 4
Grout your bowl.
